Measure the artwork

All frames are measured by their inside dimensions, the size of the space inside the frame.

  1. Lay your print flat on a level surface.
  2. Measure the width from left to right.
  3. Measure the height from top to bottom.
  4. Note the measurements down.

Example: if your print measures 30 x 40cm, order a 30 x 40cm frame.

Choose mount or no mount

A mount adds a border around your picture and creates visual space.

Without a mount

Your artwork fills the frame. Frame size equals picture size.

With a mount

A mount reveals part of your artwork through the aperture window.

Check aperture size

The aperture is the window cut in the mount. It should be slightly smaller than your artwork so the edges are held neatly in place.

Tip

We recommend the mount aperture is 2-5mm smaller than your artwork on each side for the best fit.

Order the right size

Use the inside size of the frame and match it to your picture size, with or without a mount.

Choosing a mount? Match the frame size to the outside of the mount, then match the aperture to your artwork.

Common mistakes

  • Measuring the outside of an old frame
  • Not accounting for the mount aperture
  • Measuring a curled or uneven print
  • Forgetting to measure width and height
